Products carrying both certifications provide procurement teams with the strongest available documentation for compliance packets. A contracting officer sourcing from a dual-certified supplier can demonstrate compliance with both bio-based procurement mandates and emerging PFAS-free expectations in a single acquisition action.

The Green Seal certification adds a third layer for cleaning products specifically, with PFAS-related criteria that verify products are formulated without intentionally added PFAS. For facility maintenance contracts, the combination of BioPreferred, Safer Choice, and Green Seal certification creates a defensible compliance position.

Practical procurement guidance

When writing solicitations that touch both bio-based and PFAS-free requirements, reference FAR 23.103 for the bio-based mandate and cite the applicable EPA Safer Choice criteria for PFAS-free verification. Including both references in the solicitation language makes evaluation criteria explicit and gives suppliers clear guidance on what certifications to provide.
